Located 115 miles Northeast of Nashville, Big South Fork Lodge and Horse Campground sits adjacent to Big South Fork National Park. Dating back to 1986, the lodge has been said to be the oldest horse campground in the area since its origins as a motor lodge and with new additions in the works it still leads the way in being one of the best places to camp with your horse.

You’ll drive in on Leatherwood Ford road, a wide two lane with direct access to the facilities. Campers with living quarters have over 17 Pull through and back in sites equipped with electric and water and a dump station to choose from. 2 shower-houses are centrally located and onsite amenities include firewood, ice, hay and free stall bedding.

The campground lodge offers really great opportunities for those without living quarters. Choose from 6 spacious rooms with multiple beds complete with linens, a kitchenette, bathroom, and tables as well as a tv. Free wifi is available throughout the campground and there is a stocked pond just down the hill for the angler in the family. There’s plenty of room for your horses too with 5 turnouts, wash racks, hitching rails and 7 barns equipped with lights and water housing over 32 12×12 stalls.

Big South Fork Lodge is situated along the fringe of Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area offering over 200 miles of riding. Beginner to advanced there is a trail for everyone. Be sure to pick up a map in the office to decide your style of trail.

After a short ride along Leatherwood Ford Road, you’ll find the Cumberland trailhead leading into the park. There are plenty of signs along the way to keep you on track but trail maps will be provided for you upon arrival.

Most of your riding will be done through the hills and hollows of Big South Fork under a forested canopy with an occasional field, stream, rock outcropping and distant view. Some of our favorite trail destinations locally were leatherwood overlook east laurel creek overlook, and North white oak loop overlook.

Be sure to have boots or shoes on your horse for this semi-mountainous terrain.

Thank you to the folks at Big South Fork Lodge and Big South Fork National River and Recreation area for providing us trail ridersthe opportunity to enjoy such an amazing place with our friends, families and our horses.
